Four Seasons

Date

May 2025

Inspired by Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, this sculpture translates the cyclical rhythms of nature and music into a continuous geometric form. A hypotrochoid—generated by tracing a point inside a rotating circle, often seen as a product of play (like Spirograph drawings), here becomes a lens that captures the elegance of nature's cycles through the beauty, geometry, and fluidity of glass.

Kiln formed in transparent and coloured powder glass, light shifting with the ambient conditions becomes an active element highlighting each quadrant, echoing the mood of a season and reflecting how Vivaldi’s concertos flow through three movements.

Spring emerges as fresh green hues on the glass surface, cherry blossom an allegory for renewal and new beginnings.

Summer arrives in fiery colours, with the dragonfly symbolic of Vivaldi's allusions to insects in the second movement of summer.

Autumn is rendered in warm, earthy hues the glass spiraling inward, like falling leaves spiral to the ground, echoing the harvest dances and fading vitality in Vivaldi’s notes.

Winter is captured in dichroic blues and crystalline transparent glass reflecting the cold precision of frost patterns and the stillness of a frozen world.

This sculpture is an invitation to see music, time, and nature not as separate domains, but as a singular, harmonious design—transparent, cyclical, and endlessly resonant.
